A Special Message from Executive Director Chris Stelly

As a top global destination for motion picture production, Louisiana is once again on the cutting edge in workforce training and education initiatives with the advancement of the Entertainment Development Fund. This fund is laying the groundwork for the development of virtual production, post-production, digital media, animation, and other state-of-the-art training and educational programs statewide.

This investment is already leading to well-paying jobs in the film industry for participants. As gaffer and trainer Mason McGuire pointed out, “They will show up their first day (on the job) knowing six months to a year’s worth (of production fundamentals).”

Of course, the demand for that strong Louisiana crew base continues to grow into 2022. Multiple television, and limited series and motion pictures are currently in production, and many more are lined up in the coming months. Companies like AMC, Disney, OWN, and Netflix brought in $290,684,498 in certified spend for 2021 and $103,526,582 in payroll. The expectations for 2022 are even greater.

In 2022, we are also looking forward to taking the next step in mapping out a comprehensive music industry initiative for our state. This will guide us in developing actionable, economic growth strategies that will open the door for the Louisiana music industry to become a major economic driver for our state.

Large-scale live performances are expected to see a resurgence this year. As venue operators continue to take the necessary steps to keep artists and patrons safe during these ever-changing times, the industry as a whole is finding new ways to ensure the shows can and will go on. We’re looking forward to enjoying all of the amazing entertainment opportunities our great state has to offer, thanks to the wide array of talent we are so fortunate to have rooted in our communities.
